Comparison is the thief of joy – A Startup Selling Lesson from the Trail

🏃🏼There were 44 people in the ultramarathon that I just knew were way faster than me. I finished the race at #58 which was an amazing accomplishment.

You are given a silver buckle if you finish in Sub 24 or a bronze buckle if you finish the race.

🏁I was the first person that came across the finish line to receive a bronze buckle.

I wasn’t fast enough but there is no reason for me to compare myself to the other 57 people that finished ahead of me and broke the 24 hours or the hundred (over a third) who started but didn’t even finish the race.

But with all this, I was damn proud because I put in ✔the work, ✔the effort, and ✔the time to get myself ready for this race.

I looked back and tell myself –

👉If I didn’t do all of that work
👉If I didn’t do the three trail runs a week
👉If I didn’t do 45 days of two workouts a day starting in March
👉If I didn’t do all the nutrition
👉If I didn’t do all the race planning
👉If I didn’t have the coach who was pushing me

Would I have been one of those 100+ people who didn’t finish?

😕High likelihood.

I just wasn’t fast enough, despite all of my training.

But all of that training is what got me to that place.

💪When I crossed that finish line, I just felt happy because I knew I’d put in the work.

Lesson from the trail.
